I know what you might be thinking, “Isn’t this a cliché choice for a Christmas movie?” Well, sometimes things are cliché for a good reason and this movie is a classic. Now, this is not the deplorable movie with Jim Carrey, but the 1966 Chuck Jones directed cartoon. The best thing about this program is the narration by Boris Karloff of the book over the movie. Nothing ridiculous or overblown is added, except for a couple songs and the scene in the mountains. Both of these additions are great in context and don’t take away at all from the story.
The song, You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch, has become a Christmas classic and why shouldn’t it be? It is a very catchy and quotable song. My favorite line being, “I wouldn’t touch you with a thirty-nine & a half foot pole!”
