Who is Your Daddy And What Does He Do? Part 4

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

This passage in 1 John 5:1 brings us to a name God probably wants us to know Him by most and that name is Father. God is our Father and we are His children. 1 John 5:1 says that if we believe that Jesus is the Christ then we are born of God. By definition being born of God would make us sons and daughters of God. Romans 8:15, “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.” The importance of “Abba, Father” should be understood. Abba, Father is a very personal title for God which in the old Aramaic meant “my father.” Children in the Aramaic world would use “Abba” like we use the term “Daddy.”

Jesus Christ used the term, “Abba, Father” in Mark 14:36, “And He said, ‘Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.” Jesus Christ was on such a personal level with God that He did not hesitate to call God, my Father, or Daddy. This is a wonderful truth, that God loves us so much as His children that we can call Him Daddy. A term that seemed only reserved for Jesus Christ His only begotten Son to use before His death and resurrection now can be used by the likes of you and me. Galatians 4:6, “And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, ‘Abba, Father!”
