The 1990s saw the Christian youth culture meet extreme sports with quite a bit of success. I remember watching shows like G-Rock late night on TBN which would showcase Christian bands in the punk, ska, and hardcore genres. The songs from these bands would overlay videos of extreme athletes doing their thing. It was through one of these shows that I was first introduced to MxPx.
I firmly believe MxPx belongs on this list because they were the go to Christian alternative to bands like Green Day and Blink 182 and similar to those two bands, MxPx is still alive and kicking. Their discography is prolific with nine albums. One might be thinking, why haven’t I put a band like Relient K (more pop) or Dogwood (more punk) on the list of a Christian punk band? Well it’s simple; MxPx predates both bands and did a lot to pave the way for the Christian Punk genre in general. MxPx mixed just enough pop with their punk to appeal to punk fans of all stripes.
